Moguls in Media Workshop at WeWork in Philadelphia


Last week I had the opportunity to attend a local workshop hosted by Moguls in Media with guest speaker Tiffany Michelle. Tiffany Michelle had a wealth of knowledge which I could not go without sharing with the rest of you. So if you are looking to start a business or know of someone struggling to start their own...please read up, "eat" up and ENJOY!

Let us begin by introducing Moguls in Media, it was founded about a year and a half ago by the amazing Darcel Laurie. Darcel began her work in the education field as well as journalism work but had an "Ah- Ha" moment when she realized she wanted to be doing more. This is where and when her company, Moguls in Media was born and is now thriving! Darcel works locally in Philadelphia as well as traveling to New York City, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. She has been featured in numerous articles, spoken on various radio stations, interviewed countless celebrities, reaches out to her ever-growing network of followers via social media and works hard to support women who wish to grow their brand/business. I met Darcel Laurie through a weekly women's group, known as "Positive Productive Women" located in Philadelphia. She reached out to me regarding attending last weeks workshop and I couldn't respond with anything but, "Yes, please!"

Now onto the speaker of the night, Tiffany Michelle is also a business owner of not just one but multiple businesses. She is known within her network of friends as Mrs. Go To, as her knowledge can be compared to the magic of the Mary Poppins bag. And the many hats she wears and also being a mom, makes her for an impressive recourse. She is more than happy to share her rolodex of information with current and future business owners.

Part 1: Narrow Your Focus & Get Clear on What You Do
1. Research, understand your target market and know your competitors
2. Write a mission statement
3. Write a tag line
4. Give yourself a specific title
-If you are unsure of what your title should be, 
look to other positions and compare 
what they do versus what you do. 
And pick best fitting title for you!


 Part 2: Nailing Down Your Best Business Structure
1. LLC or S-Corp?

Part 3: Plan & Schedule Your Daily Routine
1. When are you available to your client?
-Decide when it is time to "turn-off" 
work and allow for a social life, 
family time, relaxing, etc.
2. Determine your work schedule. What are your hours of operation?


Part 4: Set up Your Financial Planning Basics
1. Open a business checking account
-You want and need a paper trail
2. Know your numbers: in-going and out-going
3. Plan your team
4. Make an actual business plan
-A business plan will be crucial

Part 5: Website & Social Media Tips and Tricks
1. Build an email list

2. Your website is the face of your business...online
-Use website tracking from Google
-Have a Google business page and 
use SEO(search engine optimization), 
this will allow your customer to find you easier 
and towards the top of Google search.

Happy Gotcha Day Baylee!!

A year ago today, a round this time... We got YOU Baylee boo! Baylee has been our side-kick in "crime" for the past year.  It all started like this, we drove a little over an hour from New York to New Jersey to pick her up. She was playing with another dog in a kennel. She was just about four months old and full of energy. Her first night with us she chewed through a light cord. Yikes! Then it was shoe laces followed by a few pairs of shoes. She peed on her dog bed seconds after we got it into the house. The "bathroom breaks" continued to happen in our apartment. Michael and I were loosing patience but we stuck with it and she now lets us know when she needs to go out. I take her out early in the morning and Michael takes her out late in the evening.
