Taking Steps in the Right...Healthy Direction
Getting Healthy
Vitamins
In the past few months I have been reminded and advised of the importance of taking care of my body. Diet and exercise are important but also taking the proper vitamins/supplements which aid in giving your body the nutrition it does not get from food alone. For example, my Dr just informed me of a vitamin D deficiency. I let it lay by the way-side until I decided to do some research. For those of you who don't know, a vitamin D deficiency can come from a lack of contact with the sun, those who do not consume milk or those who follow a strict vegan diet. Low blood levels of the vitamin have been associated with the following:
Increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease
Cognitive impairment in older adults
Severe asthma in children
Cancer
Also, research suggests that vitamin D could play a role in the prevention and treatment of a number of different conditions, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, hypertension, glucose intolerance, and multiple sclerosis.

The impact of vitamin D deficiency are still being debated but I believe it was best to take action than to sit around and see what might happen. So I could go lay out in the sun more but as I am so fair skinned, I don't want to risk OVER exposure. And I feel like I consume enough milk, so I went to the local pharmacy and picked up a bottle of Vitamin D gummies. Yes, I did get gummies, haha! Call me a child but I thought I would try a different way of taking my vitamins. My mother thought I was being childish but what the heck, why not? Anyway, I will work to create a habit with taking my Vitamin D as well as a few other vitamins which I picked up. I look to have a check up with my Dr in a few months in order to monitor changes.
Have you dealt with any deficiencies? If so, what actions did you take to help with the issue? What are your thoughts on taking vitamins/supplements? Who prefers gummies over regular vitamins/supplements?
